Blog introduction - A little hello

So my husband has sat me down on a lazy Sunday afternoon and literally forced me in front of a laptop screen to get me to write an introduction about myself. I genuinely don't know who out there will find this interesting but I will admit to reading other folks' websites - all to do with food in some shape or form - and being captivated enough to bother reading! I have lived up in the French Jura part of Switzerland (35 minutes away from work in Geneva) for 7 years now, and 9 in total in Swiss-Romande. Being born and bred in London and naturally curious about living life elsewhere - and being a total Francophile language-wise - meant I jumped at the chance to move to Geneva with the Economist Group and haven't looked back since.

Two children on and being a happy homeowner up here in the mountains, I cannot imagine a life in the rat race in London anymore. But there are plenty of things about the urban life that you end up dreaming about - literally - when you become a fully-fledged country bumpkin who lives next to a hamlet where culinary options are restricted to fondue, papet vaudois and croute (and thank god there is the best burger place this side of Switzerland in St-Cergue or else life really wouldn't be worth living). Most of the things I get giddy about nowadays are to do with food and I think this is because the cultural explosion of innovation, taste and flavour bombs are so distinctly missing from day-to-day life - unless I cook it myself or drag myself into Geneva to find the odd gem!

Hence why my husband has made me type up my thoughts on all this. What I find super-exciting in the context I just described and given our lifestyles these days are these: great, easy recipes you can make yourself with straightforward ingredients (Ottolenghi I love you but really what are barberries and where do you get them?!), exciting places to eat in and around Geneva (because the latest hipster joint doesn't really pop up at the rate we see in real cities like London), and just about any topic to do with food that I find interesting (Asian food stores in Geneva, finding authentic Bangladeshi food in Nyon, lamenting about how hard it is to find halloumi in French supermarkets....). And I will just write when I am not busy juggling full-time work and two munchkins under the age of four, or trying out a new recipe myself... and hope that you enjoy the read too. :)
